Martha shares the German slang term niveaulimbo, meaning “a limbo of standards.” This is part of a complete episode.
Transcript of “Niveaulimbo”
We skip the light, fandango.
Here’s a great piece of German slang that’s making the rounds, Niveau Limbo.
Never heard that one.
No? It means a limbo of standards, and it’s spelled N-I-V-E-A-U, limbo.
Mm—
And Deutsche Welle reports that Niveau Limbo connotes the ever-worsening quality of TV programs, the atmosphere at a party that thins out before midnight, or a conversation that quickly hits the gutter when alcohol is involved.
So the limbo level drops.
Yeah.
Are you raised?
No, it’s a lowering of standards.
It’s when everything just goes to pot.
Niveau limbo.
I think that word should be adopted into corporate America, don’t you think?
I do indeed.
