Coronafussgruss

The German neologism Coronafussgruss literally translates as “Corona foot greeting,” a term for the socially distanced alternative to handshakes. This is part of a complete episode.

Transcript of “Coronafussgruss”

We were talking earlier about the new German word infinite, which means vaccine envy, and another great new coinage in German is corona fusgus. I probably didn’t pronounce that very well, but it means corona foot greeting, and it’s the way that you greet somebody. Instead of shaking hands, you just stick out a toe.

Corona foos goose. Tap toes? They do a little do-si-do with your feet? Yeah, a little foot greeting.

Well, yeah, the foos is like foosball and gloos is greeting. Right, exactly.

Corona foos goose. And to goose somebody is to poke them. I don’t know. I’m just making that up.
