The words clinomania and dysania both refer to extreme difficulty getting out of bed in the morning. This is part of a complete episode.
Transcript of “Clinonania and Dysania”
Because I am such a nerd, Grant, I sent a text yesterday with the word clinomania in it.
To whom?
I actually did. To a friend of mine who was having a really hard time getting out of bed.
I bet your personal dictionary on your phone had a fun time with that word.
It went through just fine, oddly enough.
Klinomania?
Klinomania.
Is this the mania for the comic Robert Klein?
This is people who really love his work?
No, the klino part comes from ancient words that have to do with leaning or lying down.
Oh, sure, like incline.
Yeah, exactly, or recline.
Recline, yeah.
Exactly.
So, klinomania is a fancy word for not being able to get out of bed.
Okay.
Yeah.
So, you like lying down, mania for lying down.
Yes, exactly.
And the other word for that is dysania, which comes from words that mean, you know, just bad trouble, bad grief.
Bad grief.
Oh, yeah.
Klinomania.
Yeah.
But I like that.
Now I have a word for, I guess the other word in my case is pre-caffeinated.
Pre-caffeinated.
You need one of those like Rube Goldberg setups that just drips it in your mouth while you’re still in bed.
I do.
I don’t care what.
A pull chain and it kind of dumps down you like a smell from the roof.
Exactly.
I don’t care what the caffeine delivery system is just as long as it gets in there.
You need a dog to train to bring you.
Here’s the beans.
Believe me, I tried.
Little paws, push it up into your mouth.
Yep, a good cure for Klinomania.
