The other day David Finnfrock of Dallas, Texas, sent us a photo of a sign for the Sierra Madera Astrobleem, and he knew that we would be excited about this, or at least I was because I had no idea what an astrobleem was.
Sierra Madera astrobleem? That is an amazing sentence. That is an astonishing series of sounds. The Sierra Madera astrobleem. That’s surely a space traveling vehicle, right?
Well, an astrobleem, it turns out, is a meteorite crater. It comes from Greek words that literally mean star wound. Oh, like blemish. Bleem is in blemish. They’re not related. I looked them because that’s what I thought.
Blame in Greek is a wound caused by a missile.
