Transcript of “Let the Whale Fall, Then it Crumbles”

After a whale dies, it often floats up to the surface for a while, and there it’s scavenged by seabirds and sharks, and then eventually it starts to slowly sink.

And when it reaches the ocean floor, it’s called a whale fall.

And there it provides this sudden and huge source of food for the creatures of the deep.

You know, there’s not necessarily a whole lot of food there.

And all of a sudden, there’s an immense amount of it.

And I just think that’s such a lovely term for sort of the circle of life, you know.

Yeah, and a whale fall.

It’s to imagine this immense creature succumbing to anything just seems impossible.

Doesn’t it?

Yeah.
