Huge feral pigs are eating their way across northern Canada, and building themselves shelters in the snow. Researchers call these structures pigloos. This is part of a complete episode.

Feral pigs can grow up to 600 pounds and they’re spreading across Canada and they’re causing a lot of environmental damage.
And part of the reason is that they’re able to survive some of the coldest parts of the country because they tear down plants and they build these little shelters for themselves.
And you can probably guess what these little shelters for feral pigs in very cold places are called.
Pigloos. Yes. Yes. This is a word that researchers use. Pigloos.
Yeah. Apparently they sometimes burrow in the ground, line these burrows with, you know, leaves and small branches and other soft insulating things.
And they kind of slumber through the coldest parts of the year.
Right.
