overhire
n.— «In January, Krauss was given authority to hire 11 new officers, including five officers whose main responsibilities would be to cover vacations, work-related medical leaves and other absences that prevent cops from being on patrol. The process is known as “overhire” and will help keep the department fully staffed, so officers can spend as much as25 percent of their time on community policing.» —“Tracy raises cops’ pay; more sign up” by Rick Brewer in Tracy The Record (Stockton, California) Sept. 1, 2006.
