Messing Up Names

Transcript of “Messing Up Names”

Lois in Poway, California sent us an interesting email.

She’s talking to us about the problem of her name.

Her name is Lois, but people just don’t get it right.

She says that growing up in New York, people would call her Laura, Lori, Doris, and Leslie.

And a couple of Japanese friends, of course, couldn’t pronounce the L’s at all, and it was a big problem.

Then she moved to San Diego, and now people also call her Luis, Luisa, Rosa, and Lola because of the Spanish-speaking population here.

Lois, we hear you.

We’re sorry about that.

I hope I got your name right.
