lunchpail levy
n.— «Instead of using silly euphemisms that sound like off a Wal-Mart flip-chart, highway officials ought to call this what it really is: a Lunchpail Levy. Apparently it’s escaped the notice of the “experts” that “value ” rewards those with flexible hours and punishes those with inflexible schedules. Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but the workers with the least flexibility tend to be concentrated toward the bottom of the wage scale.» —“Rush-hour tolls would just punish stiffs” by Kerry Dougherty Virginian-Pilot ( Roads, Va.) Sept. 27, 2005.
