We recently spoke about the phrase “I’ve slept since then,” for “I don’t remember.” A Texas listener wrote to say that where she lives, the phrase is “I’ve blinked since then.” This is part of a complete episode.
Transcript of “I’ve Blinked Since Then”
I mentioned on an earlier show that some Texas friends of mine use the expression, I’ve slept since then, if you ask them a question and they don’t remember the answer. The idea meaning that, you know, it’s been more than 24 hours. Why should I be expected to remember?
And we heard from Summer Backett, who’s also from Texas, and she says that the expression in her family is, I’ve blinked since then. And indeed, I Googled it, and a lot of people say, I’ve blinked since then. The short term memory is a lot shorter than overnight. So I think that one’s going to become more and more useful as I get older. I’ve blinked since then.
