We talk from time to time about sign language, and I was reminded of this the other day when I came across a quotation from Helen Keller that was about sign language and also about just the gift of language itself.

She said, “Once I knew only darkness and stillness. My life was without past or future, but a little word from the fingers of another fell into my hand that clutched at emptiness, and my heart leaped to the rapture of living.”
