Transcript of “Flyer vs. Flier”
We got an email from Jennifer Newton who asks,
When referring to a small handbill or circular, which is the correct spelling?
Flyer or flyer?
And she’s, of course, spelling that with a Y or an I.
Right.
And this is one of those questions that sends me to the dictionary because I never can remember.
And they don’t agree, do they?
Well, mostly in this country, it’s flyer with an I, the thing that you pass out.
And in Britain, it’s with a Y.
Right.
Yeah.
But you’ll see both in both places, right?
You will.
You will.
Strictly speaking, the more traditional one.
In this country, it’s F-L-I.
But I always have to look.
