It means: "formed by the accumulation of layers" or perhaps "composed of an accumulation of many layers."

one: stratum
many: strata
to form...: stratify
"composed...": stratified

"Stratified" is a good choice but you might also consider:

stratiform
layered
laminated
sandwiched
