I found the highly relevant word "wordanista" as today's entry for Worthless Word for the Day. According to WWftD, it applies to "someone who tells others what is or is not a word, based on what they have read in books."

I've never read that word anywhere before. Is it real?

It is now. Wordanista was coined on the "Colbert Report" in the fall of 2005. Ben Zimmer has written about it at Language Log.
