That article didn't mention the onomatopoeic properties of the word as part of its origin, or is that not the case with crunch?

Cap'n Crunch is one of the best crunches out there, and after all these decades it is still a top seller. But boy does it ever lacerate the roof of my mouth!

Nice catch samaphore, I forgot it was Cap'n instead of captain.

It does the same fore me as well. I would not change it though. It is kind of like coke being able to remove the rust off of a nail, the dance is definitely worth paying the piper. 🙂
