Hi! A bit of background for my question: I was born in 1960 and remember a series on what I have to assume was PBS in the 1970's. It was about the history of language. I kind of remember it being about the history of English but I maybe remembering that wrong. It was not the video "History of English" that I can find on YouTube. Unless I am confusing a couple of different PBS shows the man who did the History of English isn't the man I remember doing the show. Any help? It really sparked my interest in language. Thanks!

"The Story of English"   http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0198245/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1   is from 1986.  Other than the date, it fits your description.
