The Wild Wordsmith of Wasilla. Dick Cavett calls Sarah Palin to task for her language.
Grant and Martha:
I think you should have a contest to rewrite the paragraph quoted in Dick Cavette's's column so it makes sense. The only rule is you can't add facts or meaning to your paragraph that is not in her paragraph.
Her Paragraph:
My concern has been the atrocities there in Darfur and the relevance to me with that issue as we spoke about Africa and some of the countries there that were kind of the people succumbing to the dictators and the corruption of some collapsed governments on the continent, the relevance was Alaska's investment in Darfur with some of our permanent fund dollars.
My entry:
“I've been concerned about the atrocities in Darfurâ€.
Garry
Sarah is obviously also concerned about her Alaskan investments in Darfur, so maybe we could paraphrase thus:
“I'm concerned, especially since I can't actually see Africa from here, what with Russia blocking the view, about how the albatrosses in Darfur might affect Alaska's investments there. We have albatrosses in Alaska, too, and we handle them with humane culling. Gosh, it sounds to me like there's just too much culling going on in Darfur."
