$#$%##! LA County tries for cuss-free week. "On Tuesday, the board is scheduled to issue a proclamation by Supervisor Michael Antonovich making the first week in March No Cussing Week. That would mean no blue language from the Mojave desert, where it gets hot as $&# in the summer, to the Pacific Ocean, where on a winter's day it can get colder and nastier than %$#!"
$#!+. I guess that means I'll have to avoid LA county. I have always found the whole issue of profanity hard to get my head around. I find it funny that “feces†and “manure†and “anus†are OK, but $#!+ and %*11$#!+ and @$$#013 are not.
My son, now a father of his own sons, made me oddly proud one year at summer camp. The camp instituted a “no cursing†rule. He and his best friend eventually had them up in arms. They began using the word “SMURF†in, might I say, unique ways. Everyone caught on. The camp really didn't know what to do.
I was proud of his intuitive linguistic insight, and for his courage to challenge ignorance, confronting the leaders to examine their motives, and raising their consciousness of the subtle interaction of thought, behavior, and “legislation.â€
