Damn, forgot the ability to edit a post has been turned off. Pardon the double post.
Regarding the FB group, I just today noticed that now I have to log in before I can even lurk. Not like it's that much effort, but why wouldn't you want to leave the content visible to entice potential members? Not like it costs you anything.
Well Grant, I gave it a shot. But after a couple months I've just left the AWWW Facebook group. The vast majority of posts there are questions about usage or regionalisms, which obviously are interesting to enough members to keep that group going, but just not substantial enough for me. At least compared to what I was accustomed to on this forum.
I did a few posts there, but it just didn't feel like a good place for me. I think the clincher i9n my case was those typical Facebook "false news" teasers ... like the one today about "Monty Hall found dead ..." and others I've seen there. I know those things earn you $ on click-throughs, but come on man ... that's not the kind of BS I get on your podcasts (or ever got in this forum).
And so it goes. This is my 1096th post here, and it'll be my final one. Thanks for running this forum as long as you did. It was a haven from the lunacy elsewhere on the internet. Good luck with your Facebook group. I know it has a loyal following.
And thanks to the good friends I made here, for all your interesting and valuable insights about the English language.
We get no money from Facebook. There is no ad revenue at all passing from Facebook to A Way with Words or its nonprofit. We have no control over those ads. I dislike them, too. I recommend http://socialfixer.com/.
