I'd heard this since the early 1960s here in Central Illinois.  I don't think this had anything to do with the Modoc Indian tribe.  It may be something about Modoc Bros trucking in the 1920s and 1930s in Illinois and Indiana (their trucks must have went really fast).  Anyone ever heard this, or can confirm this origin story?

Thanks!

Urban dictionary says

We were modocing down the street. This spelling, without the "k" is due to the origin being the Modoc Indians of California. During their war with U.S. Army troops the moved from place to place after firing shots. The fifty indians had the troops convinced there were 150 shooting at them.

Not that UD is any better at finding acorns than blind pigs.

It's been a while since I saw a semi trailer with MODOC on it.  There are currently 6 trucking companies in Modoc, IN. UD says that when you're waiting at a light, and a trucker can't make a right turn, forcing you to back up. you've been modocked. (spelt with a K).

Sorry.  Wish I could be of greater help
