Why do people believe one thing when if you study the facts you can see that it's not true?

Well, I would say that not everyone is really into the whole "logic" thing.

There are so many versions of the "truth" today. Each media outlet, political party, group or what have you has their own slant, their own version of the truth. Most people don't bother to check up on the facts, they are just too busy. So they accept a lot of the pre-digested "opinion" of whatever group they prefer at the moment. Anyone who takes the time to study the facts and comes to their own conclusion is the smart person (and the rarity) in my book.

Someone said once, Research a question yourself, if I tell you the answer you will have been told, if you look up the answer, you will know it.

Jessica, can you give us an example?

Research a question yourself, if I tell you the answer you will have been told, if you look up the answer, you will know it.

I like that, RR. Reminds me of my dad, who hailed from the hills of North Carolina, on research: "Milk all the cows you can, then churn your own butter."

Martha, I love that quote!

Regarding dealing with logic and research, here's an interesting website that my husband has been keeping tabs on during the election season: http://www.factcheck.org/

According to their research, apparently both sides are fudging the truth.
