Evangelical or evangelistic?

An "On Language" Knockoff: Evangelical Shibboleths.

Here is the line: “It took about a year and a half as pastor of a small church in Western Springs, Illinois, for Graham to discover his evangelical (my emphasis) call and leave his pastorate to barnstorm for Youth for Christ.” So, what's the problem? The adjective “evangelical” is the wrong adjective here. It should be the adjective “evangelistic.” The two are not interchangeable. Neither they nor their editors caught it.
