The new code word for black: 'Canadian'

I'm not entirely convinced that this is true. Thoughts? (I looked into the National Post, and it's had a few credibility problems; also, living in the South and not hearing this is another strike against it, though I imagine I don't run in circles where this would happen.)

Here's an article in the Houston Chronicle that confirms the controversy over the usage of "Canadians" in a 2003 e-mail. Is the usage more widespread than that? (With all the publicity and blogging - if it wasn't before, it is now.)
