How widespread is the usage of "between you, me, and the gatepost" as an idiom meaning that what else I am saying is private/confidential?

There is a book with that title by Pat Boone.  I have never heard it said in conversation.

I've often heard "between you, me, and the lamppost". I've never heard the gatepost version.
