Discussion Forum—A Way with Words, a fun radio show and podcast about language

As we plan an overhaul of the website, I want to let you know that we intend to close this discussion forum. The archives will be kept but no new discussion forum posts will be possible.

There are two main reasons for this:

One, while the forums have had some stalwarts who return regularly, they have never been very popular, especially when compared to our Facebook group, which has more than 6000 subscribers. https://www.facebook.com/groups/waywordradio/ While we'd rather not have our discussion forum in the control of another company, that is just the way of the world right now. We may look into ways to integrate the Facebook group into the website but so far the methods look kludgy.

Two, its software has always been a hassle. It isn't that great, it has never looked good, and it costs a little bit of money that we'd rather spend on some other little thing.

We're going to leave the forums active for the time-being but at some point we will be locking these forums into archive-only mode, probably right before we make an image of the site to put on the development server.

By the way, one of the things we hope to resolve with the new site is a longstanding issue where new registrants haven't always received their emails. We'll also prioritize show listening on the website too, and make the site far better on mobile, which accounts for about half of our visits.
