My grandfather used to use a phrase "looks like a sick monkey begging for grapes". Has anybody heard this phrase or is this something he made up? Any help would be appreciated.

It's a new one on me. And if my ear is good, it doesn't sound like a proverb that's been treasured and polished over decades or centuries. If I had to bet, I would guess he made it up, or at most someone he knew in his youth.
