Sometimes the meaning of a word can be guessed from what you already knew, or from the context.  That's a generally sound advice to new learners of any languages.  Here're some English words that might be picked up through that kind of expedite learning:

Diarrhea     :    Exotic flower growing out of muck
Eager         :     Keen, earnest, eagle-like
Emoji          :    Graphic symbol representing emotion
Bikini          :    2-piece garment 
Suffrage     :    Suffering of the underclass
Epistle        :    Wife of apostle
Conundrum :    Protection against lewd priests
Histrionic    :    Of loud, boasty historian
Schism       :    Last stage of mental illness
Fathom       :    Extraordinary release of gas
Flabbergasted :  Of stomach that overflows belt buckle
Son-de-la-bitch :  Fancy Vietnamse cuisine
Howling      :    Southern style greeting
Fukushima  :    Spoiled sushi; any instance of FUBAR that happens in Japan
