OK, this has bothered me for a while. When I think about salad the first image that comes to mind is a mix of lettuce and vegetables. Then I run into things like chicken salad, and pasta salad, and ham salad and potato salad. I have boldly decided to call all salads that do not have lettuce "mushes." Therefore I tend to have tuna mush sandwiches. I don't really like to eat pasta salad or potato salad, but they also fall under the mush category for me. This really is just something that I made up about 3 years ago, and now it has become part of my food vocabulary. However, I have trouble when it comes to fruit salads. What should these be called? They don't fit in the typical lettuce salad, but they aren't like the other mushes either. Any suggestions or opinions?????
Medleys?
Melange? That's what it typically would be called in French, and the French carry some considerable figurative weight when it comes to food and food terms. Actually a melon melange sounds good to me. Citrus melange is OK. Maybe Melange of fresh citrus.
If Salad bohers you as used in Fruit salad, fruit cocktail must drive you to drink!
It's actually the opposite for me. I don't drink at all, but when someone mentions the cocktail with alcohol I think of the fruit medley. I like both of these ideas. French is the foreign language I took in high school, but I haven't really used it since then.
I like both ideas too, but I'm leaning towards medley. We have vegetable medleys so why not a fruit medley?
Medley is one of those words where the more I type it, the less correct it looks.
