I will wait for the follow-up study on the post-swear-fest pain inflicted by the barrage of blows from mother, wife, police, or random passer-by.
I think I'll stick with "Great Googly-Moogly."

This is completely plausible, but I have a related theory: This "trick" works better for people who don't routinely swear. If a person swears sparingly, then the words will have a stronger effect when used (like drugs). And actually, that is my argument against routine swearing: What words are you going to use when you're really mad or hurt?
