What is the name of the love poem by Pablo Neruda that Martha read at the end of today's program, Feb. 13, 2011? What is the original in Spanish?

As dilettante's link showed, it was from Neruda's collection Cien Sonetos de Amor, and you can probably get it in your local bookstore (I'd include Borders, but your local branch might now be closed). I shall say, though, unless you're fluent in Chilean Spanish (which itself has a much more harmonic quality and general prettiness than does any other Spanish dialect I know), the sonnets will not have the ideal rhythmic and symphonic quality. But I still recommend Neruda; just other works.
I'm being an advocate because I love Neruda's poems. I would never dissuade anyone from buying the book she likes, but my personal recommendation for and favorite of Neruda's poetry collections is Residencia en la tierra (Residence on Earth). Second, I would suggest Los versos del Capitan (The Captain's Verses). Even in translation the poems are haunting, ethereal, lyrical, and beautiful (if you're fluent in Spanish, the poems are even better).
Thanks for these posts. I wish I could read the Spanish - perhaps someday. For now, as you indicated, I find the English translations haunting, moving, and uplifting. L. Rowell
