origin of "to get pinched"

can anyone testify to the voracity of my opinion that the expression
of getting “pinched” was pretty much a chicago way of speaking and grew from the early 60s and you pretty much wouldn't hear it in the natural progression of a conversation any further south than kankakee, il.or north to milwaukee west to aurora
northwest to rockford.in my experience anywhere else in illinois or the midwest
you were “busted” or “popped”but only “pinched” in the chitown area.
