Opposite of postpone = prepone?
I have the following questions:
1. Why do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?
2. When dining in a restaurant, why do we ask for a check and pay with bills?
3. In India, I was used to refer the opposite of postpone as prepone. When I came to US, I was not understood when I used prepone, so I had to get into an explanation of what I meant. Almost after more than a decade in US, I am yet to come across a single word (instead of a phrase like "move it early" or "reschedule to an earlier date/time") that is equivalent to prepone.
Thank you.
Raj,
And some will point out that the opposite of 'Progress' is 'Congress'. :-/

In one of Microsoft's older software products, two icons had opposite functions: "indent" and "outdent." (More recently they have changed to "increase indent" and "decrease indent.")
