On a recent episode (recent via podcast, anyway, the game of "*xxx in a yyy" was mentioned (e.g. 64 s on a c =64 squares on a checkerboard).   Does anyone have others?

Oh yeah ... I've got a few. Here's a number quiz I found online back in 2001. This should keep you busy for awhile 🙂

This is a test not of mathematical ability or memorization, but of creativity and mental agility. The average person solves half the 30 puzzles in 30 minutes. How many can you get? Each has a unique solution. Take this test in a quiet, non-distracting environment.

Example:   52 = W in a Y       (Answer:   WEEKS in a YEAR)

3 = W on a T
90 = D in a R A
7 = W of the A W
200 = D for P G in M
1001 = A N

8 = S on a S S
12 = S of the Z
3 = B M (S H T R)
54 = C in a D with the J
4 = S of the Y

9 = P in the S S
7 = C of the G
5 = P S
24 = H in a D
88 = K on a P

1 = H on a U
13 = S on the A F
11 = D in a L D P N
32 = D F at which W F
57 = H V

18 = H on a G C
11 = P on a F T
1000 = W that a P is W
29 = D in F on a L Y
64 = S on a C B

40 = D and N of the G F
7 = C of the R B
26 = L in the (E) A
12 = A at the L S
100 = C in a D

Sadly, this one must now be changed.

Wow ... I missed that. But like I said, the puzzle list I posted dates from 2001, and predates the IAU's decision to demote Pluto. But it might yet be redeemed, as there's been a discovery of a "planet" larger than Pluto way out in the Kuiper Belt. See:   http://science.nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-nasa/2005/29jul_planetx/

It doesn't have a name yet. Just a designation (2003 UB313).

Whether the IAU will deem it a true planet remains to be seen.
