Hello world, Jack-of-all-trades here. I heard the word that meant, "a name given during wartime," on your show recently. I can't remember what that word was. Can anybody help me with remembering that word?

I was in the Surface Navy for three years. While stationed in San Diego, I listened to NPR and was lucky enough to hear your show. I consider myself to have a fairly large vocabulary, but have never considered myself a word-nerd, more a math-nerd. During my first deployment, I was given the unfortunate moniker "De-Walt." I personally think De-Walt makes some pretty good tools. My nick name stuck, and even the XO called me De-Walt. Has any one else gotten any other names during their service? Unforturnate or not, post them here!

Hi Michael, and welcome to the forum.

I was in the Air Force, stateside, during Nam. On a training flight in a T-33 I accidentally ejected my tip tanks over a farm somewhere in Nebraska. Don't ask me how that happened. But from that day on, I was known as "Tip Tanks." Fortunately, by that point in the flight, the tip tanks were empty and we were running on internal fuel. So they weren't like bombs. Still, I suppose I coulda' ended up killing some poor cow (or worse).
