I just watched the movie "A Woman Under The Influence" and at a certain point in the movie, The Woman asked her father: "Stand up for me father" What did she mean by that phrase? Reggie.
Reggie,
Can you give some more context? For example, if she were getting married, it could mean having her father literally stand up beside her in the ceremony and (implied) give her away. If she is facing some dire circumstance, she is asking father the help her face the difficulty.
Emmett
Good response, Emmett. Or, if she were altering the length of his trousers.....probably not, though.
Another possibility is that the woman is being insulted; to "stand up for" someone can mean to defend her.
