Is Zuboom a reference to the kids' show, "Zoom"? I'm afraid that was after my time, dilettante. (As more and more things are these days!)

Yes, it was a reference to "Zoom" and the language "Ubbi Dubbi". (You prefix each non-silent vowel with the letters "ub".)
