My wife asked me where and when this expression originated. I have no clue. I don't even know how far and wide it is used. I've almost only heard "look like a smacked @$$" or "face like a smacked @$$."
I can personally attest that it has been said widely for over 45 years.
Does anyone have any leads to the origin or the approximate date of origin?

I don't remember hearing it at all. Sheltered life?
