There's a word that means "origin" in terms of a place, specifically; it's used about wine a lot, a wine's ... I can't remember the word but it means the region and soil it came from, and can be used of other types of origin as well. Anybody remember? I lost it years ago and am just now realizing I could ask you guys.
The French word terroir describes the characteristics that land imparts to the flavor of food, and comes close to the idea of "origin," but the base concept is "land" or "territory."
"Appellation" also has to do with wine and geography, but it does not mean "origin;" it's base meaning is "name" or "designation." My appellation is Lux; my place of origin is Tucson, AZ. In the turf wars over wine, legal jurisdictions have been drawn that only allow certain appellations to be used for grapes grown within certain geographic boundaries.
I don't know anything about wine terms, but provenance might be the word you are looking for.
