There's an expression I keep hearing in Texas that is fascinating to me, and I'd like to know its origin and the true meaning of it. I think I know what they mean, but would be interested in knowing what others think.
An example of how it's used would be, "After the meeting, I pulled Jim aside and told him how the cow ate the cabbage." Or "Somebody needs to let them know how the cow ate the cabbage."
Any thoughts?
Welcome, Naturalized Texan! (May we call you "NT" for short? 🙂 Interesting expression. Is the idea here something like telling Jim something that should already be obvious? Or is it a different sense.
I'm not sure--I think it's a way of saying "I told him how this really happened." I'm assuming the cow ate the cabbage because somebody left the gate open and the cow got into the garden. So I'm wondering how this expression got started, and would like to confirm what it really means.
