I have so many lasagna closets myself, that I was interested to hear a brain-specialist on PBS say that cleaning up is easier for some people when their adrenaline is giving them hyper-focus, for cob-webs, etc. Adrenaline from fear of missing a deadline is one reason some wait 'til the last minute to finish assignments, too, he said. I call my shame-cleaning, "take advantage of this fear (of so-and-so seeing my mess) to get done what is otherwise too boring to do!"

What you need is a "Tidy Room". A colleague at work introduced me to this one. It's the one room in the house where the door stays closed and it a complete mess, because you throw everything in that room to help keep the house tidy. Therefore, it's the tidy room.
