Hi. My husband and I were in San Francisco recently. The concierge sent us to a great seafood restaurant. When we returned, I told him that "we had a whee of a time." He asked what that meant. My husband said that he has only heard members of my family use that expression. My mother was Irish. We were raised in South Dakota. Have you ever heard of this expression? Thanks for any help you can give me.
I certainly know Whee as an exclamation of enjoyment, and can come up with several published examples. But I've never heard that expression. The closest I can recall hearing is a whale of a time.
It's new to me! I just added it to my "words to watch" list, from which I draw some ideas for writing and radio.
Very cute expression--very vivid. Invokes a roller coaster!
