Here in southwest Missouri, we call the small, lightweight, temporary spare tires in our trunks, 'donuts'.
Do other places also call them donuts?
Since all tires are basically donut shaped, any ideas why only these called donuts or how soon after they appeared were they called donuts?
Emmett
I also call them doughnuts. In my experience, they were called doughnuts immediately upon their production, deriding their small size as compared to the better, standard spare tire that was de rigueur prior to the doughnut spare.
