Me too. Been there, but then as I recall it was more like floorlocked, and I couldn't reach any munchies.

Back in the days, the TV was the centerpiece of where all human nonactivities took place.  The couch was then indispensable acoutrement for all that magic to happen (with sundries of enablers: remote,  chips , booze).

So I wonder if today that  'couch' symbolism  still resonates, or is  fast fading with the wind,  so that newer people will soon be wondering : couch ?  Why ... What ...

I wouldn't say it's gone the way of "dialing a phone" or "watching the tube" or other anachronisms. Yet. There's still too many couches on this planet, and they'll remain a popular fixture in front of TVs. Whether for seating a family together, or a single potato. It's a cheap seating solution. We have a couch in our home theater, but it's the "back row" to a pair of more comfortable reclining/swiveling/padded chairs with armrests. I would humbly accept the label of "chair potato."

Had we a TV, I fear I would be rather a fungus than a potato.
