My parents have a 15 year old dictionary that we actually make fun of because we look up ordinary words and they aren't in this dictionary! So here's my question for your word-lovers--what is the single best dictionary I should buy them as a Christmas present?

I found this link helpful and interesting--it's about a person who systematically tested dictionaries from her own criteria! Not bad!
