I never had Martha's childhood experience of wondering why a motel with bacon seed was better than one without, but a few years ago I did glance out the corner of my eye at the associated neon sign and discovered a new interpretation. Maybe the letters were farther apart than usual or the space between words unusually narrow, but I would have sworn the motel had the name Nova Cancy (the second word rhyming with "fancy").

Reminds me of an episode of Benny Hill where he's walking down the street and passes by some kind of therapist's clinic. The sign on the door says simply "THERAPIST" and it's one of those signs made by individual letter tiles slid into a rack. Benny pauses just long enough to add a slight amount of space between the "E" and the "R."
