First, I was thrilled to see that this came from a local (to me) newspaper -- not one that I typically read.

While not a professional writer, I still rely heavily on old-fashioned 3x5 index cards. I am the only person in my office who orders them for our supply cabinet. My college thesis was probably the one product that required the greatest number of such cards, but I have found no great improvement over them, except maybe for the Post-It note in some contexts.

Come to think of it, I do love the Post-It note. While the index card can most conveniently be spread out on the desk, chair, and floor, the Post-It offers the flexibility of using other surfaces, such as the wall, windows, and parts of your body.
