Writing extended vowel sounds -- the World Cup GOAL -- GOOOOOOOOOO TEAM!

I have recently seen in print a number of words written to indicate that they are or were shouted over a long time. The World Cup GOAL is one example. But, in some cases, the techniques used to do so appear flawed or clunky.

Recently a friend wrote: GOOOOOOOO! I know he meant GO, but I couldn't help but see GOO. Still, I wasn't sure how I would have done it better.

Any ideas?
