Could anyone tell me how to upload a profile picture on this site? Thank you.

Well, I was going to tell you to just hover the cursor over the "Howdy mahashakti" greeting in the upper right corner of the screen, select "edit profile" from the drop-down menu, and then …

Alas, that avatar upload option is missing. It was there when I joined. But this forum has undergone many revisions since then.

No … wait … I just found it in an unlikely spot. Instead of going directly to your profile from the top menu, log on, click on your name in any post (right above where your avatar would be), and then when it shows your profile, click on the "edit profile record" button. On the far right, you'll see a "select your avatar" tab. That's where you want to go.

Would be nice to be able to get there from the main menu. Ahem … Grant? Other Admin?

If you're logged in, all you have to do is click the "profile" button, in the upper right corner of the screen.   On the next page, choose the last yellow tab on the right, "select your avatar"   And there you go!

Then maybe it's just my browser (Firefox). I can't get to avatars the way you describe. What's your browser, Jackie?

Thanks Jackie, but something different is happening where I am.

That's strange, Heimhenge.   I use Firefox, too.   Sorry that won't work for you, mahashakti.

This is weird. Now the normal method works again. Maybe Grant fixed it?

Mahashakti: Do this ...

1. log in

2. go to this page in the discussion forum

3. look at the very top right corner (scroll up)

4. next to where it says "logout" there's also a "profile" button

5. click the "profile" button

6. now click on the far right yellow tab that says "select your avatar"

If you can't get there, where does this step-by-step process break down for you?

Thank you, Heimhenge, it does work now. Only problem is, every photo I have is too big, so I'm working on that now. I should just use a simple image like yours. To me it looks like a Sanskrit letter. Thanks to other folk too with the helpful advice.

Yeah, the avatar instructions say the max width is 100 pixels, and the max filesize is 10.24 kB. So you'll need to edit your photo in some graphics editing app and resample it down to those limits. Unfortunately, you can't do that with the basic Paint program that comes with Windows (if you're even running Windows). But there are several free apps out there that can do resampling. For example: GIMP.

Well, as I was composing this, your avatar suddenly appeared. So I guess that ends this thread.

That's what I was trying to resize it in, Paint, but i wasn't able to do it. Thanks, i'll try your gimp suggestion.
