La ponctuation, parent pauvre…. In French, from the blog of the copy editors of Le Monde. «Y a-t-il une espace avant et après tel signe ? Ici, la règle fait presque l'unanimité. Un obstacle, cependant : la typographie distingue deux types d'espace entre les mots et entre les signes. »

First, I was blissfully ignorant of these typographic distinctions between English and French. I have been typing French incorrectly lnger than most readers of this post have been alive.

Second, it strikes me as a tremendous oversight that L'Academie Francaise neglected this aspect of oversight of the language. It seems a bit out of character. But perhaps typography was thought of as a less prestigious pursuit.
