I was curious if the Thailandsroyal villa, Chitralada, was somehow related to cathedral.

I don't know Thai, but based on some web research, it seems unlikely.     The word and its variants can be used as a proper name for boys, and can also refer to a style of traditional clothing.     That it is applied also to a palace, a grand ediface, and its phonetic similarity to cathedral appears to be coincidence.
Anyone out there with some knowledge of Thai, or do I have to tug on some of my network wires?
